Math Camps : Camps to hone 21st century skills in the students of VNGS schools

Math Camps at Velammal are about opening up students’ minds to how math lies in the world beyond the classroom. Today,29th June 2019, the Velammal NewGen Schools at Medavakkam, Madipakkam, Shollinganallur, Navalur & Kelambakkam had the Math Camp.
The campers of grades 6-8 had a day full of activities filled with fun, challenges, and new explorations. Every camper was given the opportunity to take learning into their own hands as they explored obstacles, brainstormed ideas, and creatively accomplished goals.
The Big Idea behind the Math Camp: “Coming to School safely”
All students of grades 6-8 were teamed up in groups and all of them were able to do the following
o    conduct surveys on how their classmates commute between their home and school.
o    design  data collection forms
o    get a hang of Data organisation strategies involving multiple sources and use the information to predict patterns.
o    create bar graphs and histograms using the frequency distribution table
o    use ICT skills to represent the same
o    collate the information and critically analyse and draw a conclusion on the use of transport and how it affects the environment while always  keeping the safety aspects  in mind
o    critically analyse/debate the result of their research and consider  different perspectives about Road Safety.
o    write a review on how they felt while conducting this research.

Connection to the skills:
CBSE: Life Skills Domain:
