Training for Math teachers at Medavakkam, a day well spent…
The Math Camp orientation for VNGS South Math teachers was held on 22nd
June 2019 at VNGS Medavakkam by Ms.Lalitha, Subject Matter Expert of Velammal.
Math Camp, as we teachers
understood after her orientation,would be an energetic and active day with
scope for enhancing team work and problem solving skills in students of grades
6 to 8..
The orientation
session was a real good learning experience for the Math teachers. Ms.Lalihta discussed about the active involvement of students in the learning
process. She reiterated that the teaching of math shouldn’t be limited to the passive learning as it doesn’t lead to a
purposeful outcome of an educational model. Rather the children should be
involved in active learning wherein they interact with others, share insights,
and enhance their math and communicative skills
with the social awareness in place.All
the 7 tasks to be conducted for students during the camp were discussed in
detail.Information and demo regarding “Plickers” for assessment was also
given. The SME, Ms.Lalitha concluded the workshop stating that Math can be made
interesting for students through the Math Camps of Velammal.
The
Math Camps will be held on 29th June 2019 in the Velammal NewGen Schools of
South namely VNGSMedavakkam,VNGSMadipakkam,VNGSShollinganallur,
VNGSNavallur& VNGS Kelambakkam
Theme of the Math Camp:
Embedding International Dimension and Core Skills in Classroom.
Lesson Title: Coming to
School Safely- Mode of Transport- Environment Pollution, using the UN sustainable
development goals along with Core skills in place.
Students would be provided fun filled experiences related to mathematics
on the day of the Math Camp and they would be making connections between math
and the real world. Waiting to see the beaming faces of
our smart grade 6-8 students on the day of the Math Camp.
