Hands-on learning that’s been proven to get kids more
excited about school…
PBL : Project Based Learning -It’s this kind of
hands-on learning that’s been proven to get kids more excited about school and
Velammal Vidyalaya NewGen school,Shollinganallur had the PBL Expo on Saturday,7th December 2019 in its
campus. All the 357 students from the 17 sections of kindergarten participated in
this Expo.
3 weeks before starting this
PBL activity, the teachers used classroom discussion to set the stage for
success and figured out what the students already know, what they hope to learn
and what they were curious about to make way for a better outcome. The students
also chose one PBL topic which interested them, from the topics shown by the
teacher.
After the planning stage, the
kids were given the opportunity to investigate, do fieldwork and conduct
research to motivate them to find some answers on their own. It all lead up to
what we call the “PBL Expo- culminating event” ,where all the students
presented their work and findings to their peers, parents and other members of
the school community, which included the Head
Curriculum of kindergarten Ms.Yashi Jain also. Ms.Yashi Jain felt that the
PBL provided an opportunity for the young students in kindergarten to engage deeply
with the target content and is certain to bring about long-term retention of
the topic learnt.
Some of the parents were awestruck,
seeing their otherwise reticent children talk confidently and the rest were all
in praise of the school for providing this wonderful learning opportunity for
their children.
