Student-led Conferences at Velammal NewGen Schools on Saturday the 11th January 2020

The VNGS schools at Madipakkam, Medavakkam, Sholinganallur, Navalur, Kelambakkam & Adhanur had the Student-led Conferences on Saturday the 11th January 2020.

The students of grades VI-VIII took the pivotal role on that SLC day as their roles were that of Conference Leaders and the teachers were mere facilitators.

During conventional PTODMs, parents ask how their students were doing, and teachers provide grades, behavior reports and the report cards. Instead, in a SLC- Student-led conference, the students ran the conference, informing their parents about how they were doing in class, what their goals were going forward, and what kind of learners they were. Being a progressive school, we at Velammal intended to pilot the idea of Student-led conferences for grades VI-VIII across the NewGen schools and successfully completed two SLCs for grades VI-VIII and this being the second one.

We at Velammal believe in adapting the globally acclaimed practice of having a SLC- Student-led conference, where students would be guiding the parent-teacher conference and take ownership of their learning. It is an endeavor to empower our students to share the learning experience with their parents as they have learnt to map their learning goals.The parents were extremely happy seeing their children talk confidently and also having an academic goal. The feedback walls and sheets were proof to this.
