Velammal students at the Consulate-General of Japan !!!

 Velammal New-Gen Schools believe that partnership activities between nations are a great way of bringing international education to life. Through joint projects with the Consulate of foreign countries, Velammal helps students discover more about what happens in other countries. Students learn to appreciate differences and similarities through these programs.

For one such program: Let’s get to know more about Japan,10 students representing the Velammal NewGen Schools, Chennai were at the Consulate-General of Japan on 6 April 2022.

The students were given an opportunity to interview Ms.Miyuki Inoue, Advisor, Head of Culture & Information, Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai as part of this prestigious program. The students representing Velammal were from the New-Gen School branches at Madipakkam, Medavakkam, Sholinganallur, Navalur, Kelambakkam, Nedungundram & Adhanur.

The 10 students namely Dhwanika, Milind Madhav, Shalini Thulasidas, Shivani, Karishma, Preethika Kannan, Sriram, Anushri, Priyadharshika, and Anush Adhithya along with the teachers Ms. Sharmili and Ms. Preethi Jeniffer were greeted and taken to the board room at the Consulate. 

The students had questions about online classes in Japanese schools during the pandemic, festivals, traditions, etc and Ms.Miyuki replied to all their questions patiently and enthusiastically. When students asked her if Japanese school students also wear uniforms to school and carried packed lunches, Ms. Miyuki showed them pictures of Japanese school students, the uniforms they wear, and how Japanese students take turns serving lunch to other students during lunchtime.

While the discussion was on origami, Ms. Miyuki showed Hinamatsuri dolls done through origami. When students asked about the popularity of Tamil movies in Japan, Rajinikanth and if she has watched Indian movies, madam shared her experience of watching Bahubali and 3 idiots.

Some students evinced interest in pursuing their undergraduate studies in Japan and they got to know about the MEXT scholarship offered by the Japanese Government. On the whole, it was an informative and exciting day for the students.
