Diwali celebration with a difference    87 students of Velammal NewGen School,   Medavakkam were on the streets, alleys and apartments around the school propagating the message “Have a green Diwali which is cracker free and smoke free”. The school had a special assembly program yesterday on how to celebrate Diwali without fire crackers and today 3 rd November 2018, all the students of grades 6 to 8 prepared Diwali Greetings with a message and spoke to the people in the neighborhood and broadcasted the worthy message. A group of enthusiastic students did a street play on having an ecofriendly Diwali in ‘Shirdi shelters’ and ‘Isha Yara’ housing communities, which was very much appreciated by the parents. The value “sustainable development” was instilled in the minds of the students.                                                                                                                        By

Started spreading this message and this message got imprinted in our minds, “Green Diwali”

This was the hot topic among our friends group during snack time, which pushed aside discussions about new trending clothes and mandatory Diwali selfies…what’s so important about a cracker free Diwali? why is it all in the news? The discussions that followed in the class was eye opening .Good that our school sent us to talk about this in the neighbouring community .The day 31 st October 2018,was eventful and we all   took an oath that we will celebrate this Diwali as a smokeless & cracker free Diwali and not   harm our Mother Earth by bursting crackers.   We were the young ambassadors chosen by the school to do THE job.       To start with the Principal had a meeting with all the student council members of our school and we together decided on how to plan for a community connect program, creating awareness. We the student council members along with our senior graders paired ourselves and spoke to each class about the awareness we need

This year, November 6 th , 2018 is a special day for all of us and we celebrate one of the most iconic festivals of India. Want a clue? It’s also called the festival of lights. Yes you guessed it right, Its DIWALI!   There may be many ways in which different states celebrate Diwali, but the typical way of celebrating it in Tamilnadu is waking up early in the morning, taking a nice and warm oil bath, wearing new clothes, praying to Gods or visiting temples, having special breakfast, eating lip smacking savories and sweets like GulabJamun, murukku, adhirasam, mysorepak, madras mixture etc. Yum! We distribute homemade sweets to our neighbors and relatives. And then is bonding time. We flaunt our new clothes and visit houses of friends. The TV channels have special programs and also telecast 2 or 3 new movies which people at home watch and we do sometimes peep. After doing all of this, it becomes twilight. So yess! This is the time we burst crackers like 1000 wala, rockets, rainbow c
