Building Community Partnerships
With Christmas just
around the corner, the students of Velammal NewGen School, Medavakkam, teamed
up and visited the neighboring community. It enhanced learning for them.
Community connections support curriculum as it
provides experiential opportunities for students and Velammal believes that community
connections can be culturally specific resources to develop a culturally
inclusive classroom.
With the objective to connect and create an authentic bond with the
neighboring community, the school students went to the people who matter the most,
to meet them on their own turf, on a community walk, sang Christmas carols, enacted
skit, performed dances and spoke about the significance of the tamil month ‘margazhi’ on 17th December
2018.
The school delivered them an open invitation to reconnect, collaborate and
share their experience, skills and time to make a difference.
